Makda and the Isle of Djinn Makda and Val arrive in Djibouti on their summer vacation, after about four days on a Valkyrie airship. Airships are slower than an airplane, but make up for it by being as comfortable as an ocean liner. Even if the two of them can’t fully participate in activities without wings, it more than makes up for the slower pace. They had taken the airship Mango Delight, a modernist ship decorated in a style that makes Makda think of a space-age fantasy of a spaceship, to Lys, a Valkyrie city in the Alps, and then changed to the Heart of the Sky, a more traditional ship with a look like a 19th century drawing room, warm tropical wood panels and elaborately carved furniture, with brass fittings instead of stainless steel and chrome. She much prefers the aesthetic, though both ships make her feel even shorter than normal, as their fittings are designed for the average Valkyrie woman in mind, almost a foot taller than her own 5’4”. It was kind of Cybelle to arrange the transportation.
